The opportunity
A conservative faith-based secondary school in Ormond is seeking a capable and committed Science Teacher to join the team on a permanent part-time basis.
With a total enrolment of approximately 80 students across Years 7–12, this is a genuinely small school environment where staff contribute broadly. Consequently, this role incorporates both classroom teaching and hands-on preparation of practical science activities.
This role will suit an experienced teacher who enjoys a structured, traditional approach to teaching, and values consistency, clarity and a strong classroom presence.
Teaching allocation
The total load is 0.8 FTE, comprising:
- 0.6 FTE teaching (Years 7–10 Science)
- 0.2 FTE supporting practical science delivery, including preparation of experiments, maintaining equipment and supporting laboratory activities
In a school of this size, this integrated approach reflects a collaborative, all-hands-on-deck culture.
Timetable
The timetable is currently structured across Monday to Thursday, with on-site hours ranging from approximately 11.35am/11.50am to 5.30pm/5.15pm.
The school
The school provides a traditional learning environment, including a no-smartphone policy for students.
Under the leadership of a new Principal with a strong teaching and learning background from several of Melbourne’s leading schools, there is a clear focus on strengthening classroom practice, consistency and academic standards.
With a small student cohort (approx. 80 students across Years 7–12), teachers benefit from:
- Strong relationships with students
- Direct access to leadership
- The opportunity to make a genuine impact across the school
The successful candidate will bring a calm, firm and consistent approach to classroom management.
Why this role is appealing
- Late start to the teaching day – avoid peak traffic
- No weekend sport or weekend commitments
- Small class sizes
- Minimal meeting load – meetings occur during work hours
- Direct access to the Principal
- Not a contract – this is an ongoing role
- Opportunity to teach in a traditional classroom environment with reduced reliance on technology
- Varied role combining teaching with practical, hands-on science support
- Start ASAP
