The School
The King David School is an independent co-educational Jewish day school in Armadale, 7km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, offering early learning to secondary education.
The Opportunity
The King David School is seeking an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join its Senior Leadership Team in a rare and highly influential opportunity, commencing January 2027.
With the current COO retiring after more than 8 years – and their predecessor serving nearly 7 years – this role offers unique stability, strong foundations, and long-term impact within a highly regarded and values-driven school community.
Reporting to the Principal and School Council, the COO will lead the strategic and operational backbone of the School, overseeing finance, operations, facilities, HR, and community-facing functions.
This is a pivotal role for a commercially astute and purpose-driven leader who thrives in a values-led environment and enjoys both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
About the Role
This is a broad executive leadership position with responsibility across:
- Financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and performance
- Overseeing finance, HR, IT, facilities and administration
- Partnering with the Principal and the School Council on strategic direction
- Driving enrolment growth through admissions, marketing and community engagement
- Governance, compliance, risk and statutory obligations
- Leading and mentoring a capable, multi-disciplinary leadership team
About You
You will be a commercially astute and values-aligned leader with:
- Significant senior leadership experience across operations
- Strong financial acumen and strategic capability
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Experience reporting to a Board/School Council and partnering with a CEO/Principal
- Proven experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to supporting the values and mission of the school in a respectful and culturally attuned manner
- Current Victorian Working with Children’s Check (WWCC) or willingness to undertake
Experience within education, not-for-profit or service environments will be highly regarded.
