The Jewish Independent (TJI), formerly Plus61J Media, is a contemporary Australian Jewish community organisation committed to informed journalism, diverse perspectives and constructive dialogue.
Founded in 2005 by publisher Uri Windt as an independent digital publication, the organisation has evolved into a multi-platform media and community organisation encompassing journalism, digital publishing, events, partnerships and thought leadership.
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to lead a contemporary Jewish community organisation at a pivotal stage of growth and evolution.
As Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will provide overall strategic, operational and financial leadership of The Jewish Independent, shaping its next phase as a multi-platform media and community engagement organisation with growing reach, impact and community relevance.
Working closely with the Publisher and Board of Directors, you will drive the organisation’s strategic direction, oversee digital growth and product innovation, and build sustainable, diversified revenue streams to support long-term independence and influence.
You will lead a talented hybrid workforce of editorial, digital and operational specialists, fostering a high-performance, collaborative and values-driven culture.

About You
- Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally within a mission-driven organisation, media organisation, not-for-profit environment, or related industry.
- Alignment with The Jewish Independent’s mission and values of diversity, integrity, and social justice.
- Ability to navigate diverse perspectives within the Jewish and broader community.
- Knowledge and awareness of current affairs, specifically Israel, Middle East politics and international affairs.
- Tertiary qualification in business, journalism, or other relevant area.
