Head of Teaching & Learning (0.8 FTE)

A rare step-up leadership opportunity in a small, nurturing Primary School (ELC–Year 6)

Are you a Learning Area Leader, Curriculum Coordinator or Teaching & Learning Leader in a Primary setting who feels ready for the next step?

This is a rare opportunity to move into your first Head of Teaching & Learning role within a warm, well-established independent Primary School and ELC of approximately 150 students.

With a genuine 0.8 FTE structure, this role offers meaningful leadership influence with work–life balance.

Why this role is different

This is the ideal next step for an educator who:

  • Has the knowledge, passion and capability for whole Primary-school curriculum leadership
  • May not yet hold the “Head of” title
  • Thrives in collaborative, community-oriented environments
  • Enjoys integrated programming and contemporary, inquiry-driven learning

In a smaller school setting, you will have genuine impact — every classroom, every teacher, every learner.

About the School

Our client is a respected independent Primary School and ELC located in Melbourne’s inner south-east.

With approximately 150 students from ELC to Year 6, the School offers:

  • A close-knit, inclusive and values-led community
  • Strong academic foundations in literacy and numeracy
  • Rich specialist programs in the Arts, Music, Sport and Languages
  • A commitment to student wellbeing and respectful relationships
  • An openness to integrated, inquiry-based approaches to learning

Educators who appreciate elements of PYP, IB philosophy, or enquiry-based learning will feel particularly aligned.

About the Role

Reporting to the Principal and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, the Head of Teaching & Learning will:

  • Lead curriculum and pedagogy from ELC through to Year 6
  • Support and mentor classroom and specialist teachers
  • Drive excellence in teaching practice and assessment
  • Lead professional learning and performance development processes
  • Support integrated and inquiry-based programming
  • Use data to inform improvement and enhance student outcomes
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic direction

This is a hands-on, visible leadership role within a highly collaborative environment.
