With the pending retirement of the current esteemed Principal after more than 17 years of service, we are looking for the next College Principal to lead a co-educational secular Jewish Primary School located in vibrant Melbourne, Australia: Sholem Aleichem College.

Officially opening its doors in 1975 as a day school offering enrolment from Prep to Grade 6, Sholem Aleichem College (the College) is the only stand-alone ELC – Primary School within the Jewish community in Melbourne. 

The College is a trilingual school and the essence of the College revolves around the study of Jewish languages and culture, alongside a rich and diverse curriculum that focuses on academic excellence and individual growth through its strong English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Technology and Social Science programs.

The College places a significant emphasis on democracy, multiculturalism, and history, including indigenous history and culture. This commitment stems from its proud affiliation with the Australian community.

Reporting to an impressive and focused College Council, this rare opportunity includes:

  • Visionary Leadership: Leading and promoting the vision and mission of the College and advancing the strategic goals of the College. 
     
  • Educational Leadership: Leading the development of the College in which excellence, inclusion and safety are focal outcomes for all students.
     
  • Strategic leadership: Utilising experience in fiscal and strategic planning and entrepreneurial mindset, encompassing innovative growth strategies, to develop an optimal learning environment.
     
  • Organisational Leadership: Leading and developing systems and processes to ensure the effective management of fiscal, human, and physical resources in ways that are consistent with the College’s vision, mission, pedagogy and strategic goals.
     
  • Governance: Engaging with the College Council on matters of Policy, Financial, Change and Strategic Development and Execution, and Risk Management.
     
  • Jewish Leadership: Embracing, promoting, and advancing the Jewish pedagogy of the College.

About you:

  • Current knowledge of and capability in leading educators to work within the Early Years Framework, the F-6 Australian Curriculum, and all compliance related matters
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and personal development in the form of a Master of Educational Leadership, Management, or similar further education
  • Ability and commitment to embrace and promote the ethos, pedagogy and values of the College.*

  • Demonstrated leadership of a curriculum, teaching and learning environment, leading to the achievement of excellent learning outcomes for students
  • Experience overseeing the planning, teaching, assessing, and reporting requirements of an accredited registered educational organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a school or sub-school, including timely and effective staff management
  • Demonstrated capacity as a role model engaging in a respectful manner with all students, staff, parents, and community
  • Experience in leading a child safe environment and the implementation of the child safe standards
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills exercised pro-actively to ensure well-informed staff, students. parents and community
  • Current and full VIT registration or eligibility for full VIT registration
  • Current Working with Children Check
